A 2002 survey by the English Tourism Council revealed that 84% of visitors would choose an accommodation provider who was part of a green accreditation scheme and that 68% would pay more to stay there.

• More tourism businesses are doing it (Envolve alone has helped more than 100 tourism businesses in this region to gain green credentials in recent years).

• The trick is to find the ways that best suit your business ...

What is it?

• Real tourism is a programme designed specifically to help tourism businesses in this area to operate more efficiently and more sustainably.

• It's an opportunity to network and trade ideas with smart businesses.   

•  Whatever type of tourism business you are in - accommodation, catering, travel, attraction or conference centre, the programme provides direct support at a fraction of the usual cost.

•  We'll help you measure and chart your use of resources then help you find ways to cut your costs by cutting your usage.

How does it work?

• We'll work closely with you, starting with a Baseline Review of your resource use.

• From this, we'll suggest a prioritised set of actions you can take on issues like resource use reduction, waste minimisation, pollution prevention, habitat conservation, green transport, clean design etc.

• Then help you apply them and track savings.

• We'll run quarterly training seminars and workshops for you and your staff.

• We'll support you on-site when you need it.

In addition, we'll pull in a range of additional free and subsidised help & advice, working closely with other local and national tourism bodies and sustainability organisations.

Who are we?

•  Envolve is a charity which works with partners to create practical sustainability. Local deliverers who understand the issues for local businesses.

•  We've worked with tourism businesses for many years. We created the Real Bath Breakfast to promote local foods (now widely copied), have conducted over 100 accreditation reviews of tourism businesses, and deliver Sustainable Tourism seminars across the region.

•  Real tourism is funded by the Government programme Envirowise which aims to reduce the environmental impact of UK companies whilst making bottom line cost savings.

•  We are working with many partners across the region Destination Bristol, Bath Tourism Plus, South West Tourism, Future Footprints, Bath Global Compact, The Carbon Trust, EnVision & more, so you are in good hands ...

So what does it cost?

• The programme is heavily subsidised.

Each participating business can enrol up to two members of staff and is invited to make a small contribution dependent on company size:
