a2b project

The A2B Smart Travel Project aims to improve the range of travel choices for people living in Bradford on Avon and Bradenstoke (near Lyneham), whether by car, bus, train, on foot, by bike or taxi. As featured on BBC Radio Wiltshire Sound, 3TRFM and BBC TV, the project gives local people improved information about their transport options and provides some practical solutions to help them get from A to B. It is funded by the Government's Rural Bus Challenge with project management provided by Envolve.

The Bradenstoke Taxibus service is launched by MP James Gray - unlocking 30 bus services in nearby Lyneham.

As featured on BBC Radio Wiltshire Sound, 3TRFM and BBC TV, the project gives local people improved information about their transport options and provides some practical solutions to help them get from A to B. It is funded by the Government's Rural Bus Challenge with project management provided by Envolve.

The A2B Smart Travel Club is part of the A2B Project and was set up after consulting local residents about their travel habits and their attitudes to different forms of transport. The range of services includes bus ticket discounts, journey planning, up-to-date travel information, ridesharing and a car club.

People in Bradford on Avon can now enjoy a fully fledged car club with a brand new Vauxhall Corsa 5-door hatchback and an Astra estate. The cars are conveniently parked at the Mace store on Winsley Road or in a dedicated space at Bradford on Avon railway station. Charles Dewey, A2B Marketing Manager said "the residents of Bradford now not only have a choice of two cars but also the convenience of booking the cars from two locations on the North and South of town. The membership is growing steadily."

The project has also recently started a Taxibus service providing a link from Bradenstoke, which has a limited bus service, to Lyneham which has more than 30 regular services to Swindon, Chippenham and beyond. MP James Gray launched the service in September 2003. Trips are subsidised and cost £1 each way (concessions apply). They are designed to synchronise with the bus services - if a bus is delayed the taxi will wait. The scheme is open to members of the A2B Travel Club, which is free to join.

The A2B Smart Travel Club was launched at Bradford on Avon library on 5 December 2002 by the Town Mayor, Cllr. Janet Repton, the Mayor of Bradford on Avon, followed by the Bradenstoke launch on 1 February 2003.
