adult learning in environment related topics (ALERT)

Your Community Your PlanetThe ALERT project was set up to provide diverse learning opportunities for adults on environmental issues such as recycling and wildlife friendly gardening. Between 2002 and 2005 Envolve was the lead organisation for this European (Grundtvig) funded partnership of training providers. A range of adult education courses, training for trainers workshops and dissemination events were held by the partner organisations in Greece, Austria, Lithuania, UK and Romania.

The project culminated with the 'Your Community, Your Planet' conference held in Bath, UK. The conference aimed to inspire and promote positive change at a community level, showing how it is possible to embed sustainability into our everyday lives.

The conference included participative presentations by young people, policy makers, community workers and academics. There were demonstrations showing how communities work together to reduce environmental impact: a group with learning disabilities shared their 'Environmental Tips for the Home', a local chef uncovered secrets of seasonal cooking and a group of young people demonstrated their bike re-cycling project.

A variety of people benefited from the day including community activists, professionals involved in community projects, adult and environmental educators, policy makers and students.
