From tiny acorns mighty oaks grow

A group of local residents were concerned about their local environment, so they contacted Envolve. Helen Jones, Community Projects and Training Officer, visited the group and the site in Welton Vale. The idea of planting a small native woodland was born and the group of residents became Welton Vale Green Team.

Envolve assisted with discussion's with the Duchy of Cornwall which owns the land, and the tenant farmer. Successful funding applications completed by Helen and the Team brought in funds from the Forestry Commission, Radstock Community Chest (local SRB fund) and a Voluntary Organisation Grant from B&NES Council.

To date over 1500 native trees have been planted on the site including oak, ash, small-leaved lime, birch and other shrubs to help encourage wildlife. The trees have been planted by local people including families and retired people from the surrounding areas of Radstock and Midsomer Norton on organised planting weekends.
