Business and sustainability workshopsFrom October to December 04, a series of business and sustainability workshops were delivered to students aged between 12 to 15 from participating schools in Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset and Wiltshire, focusing on themes such as waste and recycling, use of land, sustainable transport, food and farming, sustainable construction and other key issues. Students learnt about the issues of sustainability through a number of active-learning sessions featuring games, quizzes, discussions, role-plays and various exciting tasks. At the business workshops, students enjoyed the innovative three-way tug-of-war where the concept of the three pillars of sustainability was demonstrated. “I remember the tug-of-war – it’s important to get a balance between money, people and the environment,” said Charlotte and Lillian from St Mary Redcliffe and Temple School. Business workplace visitIn early 2005, student representatives will have the chance to visit their business partners and to develop their ideas to help the businesses become more sustainable. Ideas swap sessions will be held to help students formulate their budding ideas, and share their thoughts with other schools. A year-end conference will be organised in July to acknowledge the participation and innovation of the students and partners. Thank you very much for the support from teachers at the participating schools and our business partners. Participating businesses partners: Avon Valley Cyclery, Bristol Zoo Gardens, Cricket Farm Enterprises, Feilden Clegg Bradley Architects LLP, Forest of Avon Products, LaFarge Cement UK, Pieminister, University of Bath, Wessex Water, and Windmill Hill City Farm. |
