Beechen Cliff School
Reduce, recycle, re-use & redesign: We organised a one-day workshop on waste and recycling for year 9 students at Beechen Cliff School. They looked at issues on waste and recycling with the Recycling Consortium, demonstrated their creativity through a re-design exercise, learnt about sustainable business and found out about their business partner the University of Bath. They also participated in a role-play debate about the use of plastic bags in UK.

Wildlife and us: Year 8 students had an interesting morning where they learnt about sustainable business, local agenda 21, and the impact of our use of resources to wildlife and the environment with their business partner the Bristol Zoo. Highlight of the day: meeting and learning about the Madagascan hissing cockroaches and snakes.
N.B. Reptile touching at Bristol Zoo Gardens is only permitted for children of secondary school age.


City Academy, Bristol | to top
A day at the Create Centre: Year 10 students of City Academy, Bristol spent a day at the Create Centre (and the eco-home) to learn about issues of sustainability through looking at our lifestyles (such as energy and water use) and choice of materials in our homes. Representatives from their business partner Feilden Clegg Bradley Architects, who designed their new school complex, gave an insightful presentation on sustainable construction and the new plan of their school.


Matravers School | to top
Year 9 students at Matravers School attended a sustainability workshop through looking at wildlife in water. They learnt about how our use of resources impacts the animals living in the water. The students also learnt about what sustainable business is at the business workshop where they discussed the issue with the representative of Lafarge Cement UK, their business partner.

Norton Hill School | to top
Young eco-town planners: town planners would love to see the innovative eco-town designs by year 8 students at Norton Hill School, who looked at issues of sustainability with their business partner Forest of Avon Products. The students were also challenged on their knowledge on environmental issues through an exciting sustainability quiz.

Oldfield School | to top
Food for thought: It was a fruitful day for year 8 students at Oldfield school where they joined in five sessions of workshops regarding sustainable food and farming. Award winning food educator Farmer Nick brought a whole box of vegetables from his garden and tested students on their knowledge of the food they eat. Students learnt about nutrition, food packaging, food miles and farming through a series of activities including a tasting session, and a stimulating role-play debate. Representatives from their business partner Cricket Farm gave their first-hand views on farming in UK.

What is sustainable transport: Year 8 students at Ralph Allen School investigated the issue of sustainable transport through an active-learning workshop, an exciting quiz and a speech writing exercise to promote a sustainable transport campaign. They also learnt about sustainable business where the representative of Wessex Water, their business partner, shared their insightful experience with the students.

Saddle up: Year 8 students at St Marks School attended a one-day workshop where they learnt about sustainable transport and sustainable business with the representative of Avon Valley Cyclery. The students were asked to make a speech and poster to launch a cycling campaign.
   
  
St Mary Redcliffe and Temple School | to top
Make a pledge: Year 9 students at St Mary Redcliffe and Temple School made pledges to make a difference to their local community after the local agenda 21 workshop. The students also learn about sustainable business through the work of their business partner, Windmill Hill City Farm.
  
  

Whitefield Fishponds Community School | to top
What’s on your plate: Year 9 students a Whitefield Fishponds Community School looked at the issue of sustainable food such as nutrition, food packaging and food miles through a series of innovative exercises. The students also had the chance to learn about their business partner Pieminister, and got a taste of their famous pies.
